ANSEL ADAMS

This is a picture of Ansel Adams in front of his famous photograph called "Moonrise over Hernandez". Ansel Adams is an American Icon and the first photographer I was introduced to as a young boy. He has inspired me for over 35 years and ignited my passion for photography. He was a master at capturing the American landscape and nature. His love for the John Muir Wilderness and Yosemite National Park also helped fuel my passion and love for mountain climbing and landscape photography. Ansel was born in 1902. He became an accomplished pianist and then went on to be one of the most noted photographers in American history. Ansel was so extraordinary. He was known to haul fifty or more pounds of supplies and photography equipment up into Yosemite and over Half Dome and beyond for days just as one example of his many photography trips to capture unseen landscapes. Keep in mind this was forty to sixty years ago when their were no single lens reflex or digital cameras. Cameras were big, bulky, square and heavy. He was an animal. As a climber and photographer myself, I can really appreciate his journeys and what it took to get the shots he did with the equipment he was using, amazing.  Ansel's dedication to sharing the beauty of this countries natural landscapes with the viewer did probably more then any one person in helping this country see the importance of our national natural treasures and lands. I love Ansel Adams. I have a large collection of his work and this particular photograph is one of my favorites. Both Ansel and I share a love for the Native Americans. As a boy, back in the sixties and seventies, I spent a good bit of time on family vacations visiting indian reservations with my family. My father loved the Native American culture and deep historical importance. I too have a deep passion for Native American history and artifacts. I have a lithograph of this famous photograph Moonrise over Hernandez currently hanging in our master bedroom along with other Native American art and rugs. If your not familiar with the American Legend Ansel Adams, make sure to check him out!
